Updated continuously by citizens like you, Newsvine is an instant reflection of what the world is talking about at any given moment.
All of your photos are fabulous dear Etva. But, I particularly like #3 and #11. Great job as always young lady. :)
Thanks Mrs. D! Number 3 is sort of addicting. I don't have any idea why I like it. LOL:)
PS: Did you sleep OK last night? Hoping you are fully recovered from the spider mishap:)
LOL. Yes, I slept okay.. I guess! *sniff* I will have to quit looking at A.Mac's photos. Everyone else lets me know when to look away. :)
That was so funny. In a slide show it just sort of snuck up on us too quick to warn you.
etva, these are all so lovely: 1 3 5 8 10 11 13 -my favorites (is that too many favorites:)
LOL, I'm sorry, Mrs. D, but I have to agree with Anna -- it was funny, if only because I think A. Mac was so surprised to see that spider:) I mean, surely, he would NEVER put it there on purpose... *grins*
Thanks Anna! Some days, I can't pick favorites either:)
I wrote my response before I saw your article -- I had no trouble picking a favorite from your article today:)
*sniff* Really? My good friends are making fun of my phobia? Yeah, I guess I would be doing the same thing. Love you guys! Just protect me from those S. :)
Ah, never!! We're laughing with you:) You made it so funny with the long, dead silence!! lol
We'll do our best to protect you, Mrs. D, even if we're laughing while we take away the evil S:)
(((((Mrs. D)))))
All very stunning photos etva but my favorite is the red Virginia Creeper on the post.
Thanks, Vlad! I was afraid that picture was sort of boring. It looked stunning in person, yet the picture didn't seem to reflect what I saw. I was convinced last night in the Virtual Meeting to post it:)
It has a wonderful sense of intimacy. Close up shots are harder to do in my estimation. But the color interaction is what really gives that piece a great sense of balance. It is a simple image but it also has qualities that give it much more strength than a photo of a larger scene.
For scenes like this one, I tend to prefer portrait shots, but I can't make them fit properly in an NV article. And yet, this one had lots of horozontal lines as well, so maybe that helped in this style. I'll try to remember to ask at virtual meet, how to reduce portraits to fit properly on NV, and then I can post some of the comparison shots. There were so many lines in this particular scene to play with:)
Number 11 seems especially restful and peaceful. Would like my living room window to have this view; can you please move this scenery over here?? Thanks! [;)]
Actually, Minnie, number 11 is the view from the living room window, though I moved slightly to the right to avoid a big box bush. I still wonder what my Dad was thinking when he planted that bush there:)
People respond to Number 3 I think because of 1, the good structural balance; 2, the contrast of man-made fence with the red creeper; and 3, the range of textures. I really like it! Go enter it in some photo contest in your area-- do you belong to a camera club? If not, go join up.
And number 1 has the classic S curve, that's why people naturally feel comfortable with it.
NVP is the only photography group I belong to:) I'm happy that people on the Vine enjoy the photos:)
Hi ET,
Your composition in these photos is really great! I especially like, 1, 3, 11, 12. 8 is interesting, but it makes me dizzy... did you do that in camera, or by cropping?
Also, are you doing any color adjustment on these images???
Thanks Mal! Number 8 was a topic of discussion last night at the meeting. I cropped out some of the grass on the bottom of the photo, to better address the rule of thirds, but the slant is natural, and the way the field is in real life. I was debating using the straightening feature, but Fletch pointed out that the corn stalks wouldn't be straight then - LOL:)
The farm is very rolly, as we are in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. I contemplating straightening number 11 as well, but left it. I did play with the colors of that one in PSE -- not very successfully, and I actually meant to not include it in this article, but I was rushed and not paying attention. I still haven't mastered the feathering feature, but at least you can see that I'm practising:)
Number 12 and 13 were both straightened. The farm is so rolly, it's nearly impossible to get a straight looking shot, especially when I include a fence line.
If you'd be willing, I would love to revisit all of these things in a GTM sometime.
Says the lady, who took out the lights on her first try...
[etva still trying to stamp out phone wires]
:-)
Is this where you live or a spot to go to? I am so jealous of several of you folks who live near and in such beautiful spots like this! I'd do a lot of walking here! I like all of them but #12 stands out to me - like how you included the line of the fence in the shot.
Thanks Jackie! The field shots are from my family's farm, and we do indeed take alot of walks, especially in the fall when it's cooler. I've been playing with fence shots in my photos - often difficult, since there are so many hills, it often leaves the photo looking crooked. Still, I like the lines:)
reminds me of the time i was tied to a fence and stoned with pine cones......(sniffle, sniffle) Oh never mind!
Damn it, BF, I just snorted soda all over the place! Hate it when that happens!
You know, there were quite a few pine cones on the ground under the wires in photo number 3. I had no idea that was you tied up there. I promise I'll let you loose next time you get caught:)
etva, those are just beautiful, Thank you.
Thanks BH! Word is, tomorrow it will all be white! I just brought in the rest of my green tomatoes, just in case:-)
Oops. Only a little white stuff in my area. I hope it's not too painful for y'all!
I like them all et. But #3 and the simplicity plus the colors in it really stands out and IMO makes it a memorable photo.
Thanks Soovi! I'm glad that one worked for you. I was afraid it was too simple to be appealing.
Not all etva! #3 would make a neat painting! If your *white stuff* was there, #5 would make a nice Christmas card. All of the pictures were lovely, but the rolly hills gave me vertigo! LOL :-)
*grins* It's said that we'll have white stuff tomorrow. I think it will probably melt before I get out with a camera, but I'll be looking for that shot:) Thanks GH and sorry about the vertigo!
Beautiful shots and country etva. I especially like the use of the fences in them, gives them that framed, homey look. Good job!
Thanks DTH! Fall seems to be the time of year that I'm inspired to play with fences. The dark lines contrast so well with the fall colors:)
Very peaceful... I always like photos of roads and fencelines disappearing along an horizon or around a stand of trees. That always invokes certain emotions in me, though I can't really say why. I also like the virginia creeper pic for the color contrast.
Thanks CT! I like the road shots as well, and have several locations that I play with every year -- the first picture being one of them. Unfortunately, it's not always safe to stop with a camera -- and it drives my kids nuts! LOL:)
Nice photos, etva. My favorite is #5 - nice DOF and you can still make out the trees in the background.
jobs
Thanks Jobs! I seem to have developed an obsession with that pine cone. I photograph it constantly from all directions:)
