5) Vultures on the Wind for Al!
Updated continuously by citizens like you, Newsvine is an instant reflection of what the world is talking about at any given moment.
I can't remember the last time we had snow in October, but here it is - sort of. It was more ice and sleet than snow, but I figure the dusting qualifies:)
They're Gorgeous! Oh my!! Color still on the trees and snow! It is just too awesome to see that beautiful land in full color with a dusting of snow. Only Mother Nature can make it that pretty and YOU captured it. Best ever! My favorite!
Number 4 is like a fairy tale come true.
Great shots of the old homestead etva -- It got down to 50 out here last night. It's time to break out the flannel sheets -- HeHeHe!
Thanks, Anna! So glad you liked them. I was almost disappointed that there wasn't a bit more snow in the fields, but I was too lazy to go out early this morning before it melted - LOL:)
DZ, LOL, 50 degrees seems warm now! It's 30 here - in OCTOBER! That's just crazy! Normally, we're at about 50 also. Oh well, it made for a good photo op!
Etva, the one thing missing from your photos are the buzzards floating overhead in the air currents. Maybe it is too cold for them.
LOL, Al! You are too funny. As a matter of fact, there were some buzzards. I just added the photo for you:)
Anna, what did I do? You don't like buzzards/vultures? They are really graceful and beautiful as they sail with the air currents.
I admit they have a dirty side, but they help clean the earth.
Or is this about Ben?
Now Al, you need to explain that "Ben" is not "our" NVP Ben!! :) -Hey nobody ever came in, so I made Ben scream!
No, etva and I just were kidding together about old buzzards!
I made Ben scream!
Ben screams? [etva ponders this new development]
Er, sorry Anna! I forgot to add a warning about the buzzards. I'll try to do better in future:)
Scott Butki had a Halloween writing challenge that Al and I participated in; but not Scott too much;lol. Anyway main character was named Ben.
I probably don't need to know the details, but I'll keep it in mind:)
And Anna liked Ben, too. But she really liked when he screamed. lol
We didn't get the snow today. It was south of us. I guess it couldn't afford our property tax structure.
LOL, Enoch, I suspect the snow will find you soon enough. It seems to be in a hurry this year:)
Enoch, did you notice the road sign next to etva's house? It is just barely readable. It says "Jay's Dinner - Open 24/7 - 506 miles". lol
It's stunningly beautiful there! I wish I had that kind of property - but I have to be honest with you - I don't think I could do winters there!
When I'm rich and famous, I'm going to have a home in upper PA or NY, and winter in CA!!
Hi Shelby! Truth is, we normally have mild winters, with a few inches of snow in February. Every 10 years or so we get a good blizzard, but they are rare. Normally, I still have a garden going in December, but this early freeze took care of that. Ugh! At any rate, thanks for stopping by!
The dusting of snow adds character to your already beautiful property!!
We got so much snow, my shovel ran away with the broom. 10" of the heavy wet. Happy Halloween everyone! Im going as Santa. This time Santa's getting the candy. Instead of BOO! BOO! BOO! Its HO! HO! HO! Merry! Merrrrryyyyy Hollowen!
LOL, Penn, I'm very relieved that we didn't have 10 inches. My area comes to a grinding halt at a mere inch of snow! Hopefully, no one ends up with a Boo Hoo this year:)
Are you playing with my mind? Easy to do I suppose - LOL! Both our dogs were in the house when this was taken, but there could have been others - not that I see them...
[etva sends out the Hounds of Hell with directions to Pennsylvania]
:-)
HA! You call that snow??!!!
Oh, etva. Right now, theres about a foot outside and its wet stickey and heavy.
The satalite has been driving me crazy, amd the lights keep flickering.
It SUCKS.
The trees still have leaves on them so we'll lose lots of branches.
I've shut my computer down once all ready, and expect to lose the juice before the nights over.
Gawd I wish I was in Ole Virginy!!
I'll confess, BH, I'm glad to not have all that heavy snow! I'd never get the sidewalks clear in time for Trick or Treating! LOL:) Post some photos of your snow, if you have a chance. Would love to see what we missed:)
Good, crisp shots of the beautiful countryside. Snow or not, the country is the place to live. I grew up in country like this, a few more trees, maybe, but basically the same. If you want to find me, Etva, head for the trees.
You have made me want to be a kid again.
Thanks Al and Jackie! We have a few wooded copses, but the snow didn't make it into those - it was a selective snow storm! LOL:)
It's so odd to see all the fall color with the snow. These are beautiful shots, etva!
Thanks Holly! Snow is definitely unusual this time of year, so I'm glad I had the opportunity to get the shots. It was just enough to make it scenic, and not bring life in our area to a grinding halt:)
Great photos,
sidenote: just named you co-admin on Jukebox Joint LOL maddad is too. No seeds no articles Just videos or links to one. :) easy peasy.
I have to go change out his flowers Nov 2, so I needed the extra help...Thanks
Thanks M, and I'm glad to help with the admin stuff. I know it's a tough time for you. ((((M))))
nice shots the first one was great, you keep all the snow coming your way. lol
Thanks 58R! Good to see you back on the Vine, and I hope your feeling better. Looking forward to more walks. Er, I mean, I'm sure Rosie is ready to take some more walks:)
Ugh, no edit this morning.
I'll try to keep the snow here, but I suspect you'll still get the bulk of it:)
etva #17.1...I put my thermal underwear on today for the first time. I was very comfortable outside.
Apparently, all the kids in our area would rather be cold. They aren't used to cold weather so soon and are refusing to give up their summer clothes. (sigh)
#4 - is that your farm house, or the neighbors? We've seen that view a couple times now.
No snow yet here but we're looking at maybe next week. :(
My brother lives in the house. It's the same house I showed awhile back with the antiques and the timbered walls.
Love the third picture in this set, the reds in the trees really stand out. Very pretty.
Thanks Maryangela! I'd say the leaves were at peak color for these pictures, and I was pleased with the effect against the dark skies.
Looks like a nice place to raise some horse's,....
There are lots of horses in the area, but we only have cattle -- much easier to care for:)
These days, yes, but I used to ride them often when I was a kid:)
Harder to ride!
These days, yes,
I know! It is so hard to get the bucket seat to fit tight.
but I used to ride them often when I was a kid:)
Yeah, me too.......... Then they put parking meters in town and raised the insurance rates.
LOL! Yeah, it's too bad...
Yeah, they were the real muscle cars. If one is lucky, one can perhaps see a completely refurbished classic at an antique cow show! I use to own a Jersey milker; it had a 455 cubic inch utter with a 6 quadra-jet nipple setup. Hard on the milk, but fast as hell (3 MPH!), and that ain't no bull.
Hey, back in the day, when one had a muscle cow that could travel at speeds exceeding 2MPH, it wasn't hard to pick up the girls!
Snort! Yeah, but you couldn't go very far either!
Edit: Er, I mean travel long distances:)
it came from your way
it fell up here
and then it melted.
I like these new Southern snow storms.
Farmers Almanac is on Facebook now too. They're calling for a milder wetter winter. But if one of those Canadian clippers comes down, and the southern rain comes up, lots of snow...sighhhhh
Last I heard, VA was supposed to be very cold this winter with lots of ice and little snow. I thought that came from the Almanac, but I don't remember now. So far, it seems so:)
We may get some more snow in Pennsylvania tomorrow.
It's supposed to be 34 this afternoon with a chance of snow. I'll go outside, which direction should I blow?
LOL! Blow North, please:) We are rainy and cooler, but still above 50:)
*huff, puff*
[etva blowing hot air up north for Wolf]
"Damn fairy tales are all messed up," mumbles etva the earth pig:)
That's what I thought.
Good for a chuckle. Perhaps not good enough for prime time.
