Updated continuously by citizens like you, Newsvine is an instant reflection of what the world is talking about at any given moment.
These are December rescued roses, as the photos were about to be dumped as boring and repetitive, before I altered the images.
Hope you enjoy them, and happy Foto-Friday!
Thank you for the minute of Beauty, etva.
Not boring at all. The first one, the extreme closeup, reminds me a bit of a Georgia O'Keeffe painting.
Thanks Minnie! The photo does seem familiar -- I'll have to do an online search. Maybe I was subconsciously thinking of a specific image, while cropping:)
Beautiful, etva! #1 and #7 are my favorites. I like #1 because we don't see the whole bloom; having it partially in the frame brings out the detail in the petals . I also like the desaturation in that one. The entire composition is very appealing. #7 is great because of the subtle coloration and the detail of the water droplets. It looks both moody and beautiful. You did a nice job with the editing on all of these. Cool!
Thanks, Holly! Funny thing is, I seem to have moved away from my usually preferred bright colors. I think I ended up desaturating nearly every flower photo. Strange - LOL:)
I'm also spending more time looking for little portions of the photo that appeal to me. Your abstract mood is contagious! :-)
Fantastic photos!! I love all of them!! I haven't seen any roses for a few months now. :-(
I like how each one is so personalized too.
Thanks, Tzia! Personalization was my goal, since I tend to take so many photos of the same thing. I was looking for a different mood or flavor to the photos.
etva:, just gorgeous! We have but a single rose bush in our garden and it is called Mr. Lincoln and throws the most beautiful red blossoms. Unfortunately in the dead of summer around here the temps get into the 90s in the shade and triple digits in the sun so it doesn't last but a couple of days but is it beautiful for the time. I have taken to just cutting the blossom off and bringing into the house where we can baby it alongfor a week o longer. The aroma is great, too! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you FIN! These are from my only rose bush - a brandy tea rose - my very first in fact, since I have a tendency to kill them. (sigh) I thought I'd destroyed this one already, but then blooms finally appeared in the fall. I was taking photos every day! LOL:)
Very nice, etva. I like the detail in the first picture, but they're all well-done. I was going to ask you if they've been altered, but you answered in your first post. I haven't played around much with editing software, but I suppose I should.
Damn it! NV just ate another of my posts! *sigh*
Second attempt:
I highly recommend editing software - something I'm still learning to use, but I'm sold on their value. Fletch has a program that can de-age a person. It's incredible to see.
I'm pretty sure there is someone in NVP that uses any program you might be interested in. If you can, come to one of our virtual vine meets (every Thursday at 7pm EST) to see what each program is capable of. Some are more user friendly than others, and some have better tools than others.
Each of these photos, was in my dump file, as over/under exposed, out of focus, or simply boring, but I'm learning that every photo has something to offer, and any photo can be improved.
At any rate, thanks for stopping by, and for posting more Euro photos:)

Fletch has a program that can de-age a person. It's incredible to see.
Um, can I use on my non-virtual face, too???
We did ponder that, but haven't figured out how to make it work! LOL:)
Poor et you are having so many problems today with NV - you deserve a rose. They are beautiful. I had a rose garden and little by little the bushes were taken over by the shade tree from next door so mine are gone. Thanks for sharing yours.
Love the critters in the second picture too. Guess they are getting their last meal in before the cold comes.
LOL, thanks Soovi! It seems Murphy is after me this week. Yesterday I got booted off the meeting! *grins*
I'm hoping my roses will come back in the spring. I'm told they are hearty, but I really know very little about them. I was told the Brandy Tea Roses could handle sun or shade: they get morning sun, but afternoon shade. We'll see:)
nice etva, they were almost red. lol
LOL! I'll have to see if I can produce a red rose for you. I'm afraid they were no where close to red in their natural state.
How've you been 58? I've not had much time on the Vine this week, and haven't had a chance to see what's up with the snow fight. I've a sick child right now, so I'm on and off, but I'll try to get over and defend my team sometime this weekend.
not to worry etva, we will wait for you before we start another war. lol kids first we may need them for the catapult. lol
LOL! Well, he isn't up to catapulting at the moment, but hopefully in a few days:) Thanks 58.
Roses are by far my favorite flower. All mine died last summer while I was in Alaska. Yours look so realistic I Iamost leaned forward to smell them. Beautiful, thank you so much
Hello Don! It's so good to see you on the vine! I'm glad you enjoyed these, and I promise, I'll take lots of pictures -- assuming mine come back next spring or summer, or whenever they are supposed to. I'm generally more of a daffodil kind of girl (plant 'em and forget about 'em) but I'm making a real effort with this rose bush! *grins*
Wonderful images etva but the first one is my favorite. It looks like a painting to me.
Thanks Vlad! It seems familiar to me too, now that several of you have mentioned it, but I can't find on line, what my mind tells me I've seen before:)
I'm so jealous Etva! My roses have pretty much stopped blooming as it's been so cold. Roses are my absolute favorite flower. GORGEOUS pictures - wow!
Thanks Jackie! My roses aren't blooming now either. These photos were taken in early November. I'm just slow to get them posted:)
Hi etva, I appreciate your photos, I'm a little late to the game here, but what are you using to alter your photos?
Very nice indeed, Master Link
Thank you, Master Link! I use several programs, Photoshop Elements being the most advanced, but I'm still on the low end of the learning curve. These particular photos were done using Windows Live Photo Gallery Repair. It's the easiest of all the programs, IMO, and I tend to use it, if I'm just cropping or playing with contrast and saturation.
Newsvine Photographers Group hosts a virtual vine meeting every Thursday, and some of our more experienced members help the rest of us learn to use editing programs. Between us, I think we have every possible editing program.
When I first joined the group, I never would have considered altering my images in any way -- and each of these pictures would have been trashed without further thought. Now, when I look at an image, I see new possibilities.
Are you interested in photography or -- darn it, I haven't finished my first coffee yet, and my mind is still a blank slate - whatever it's called when you create images from the computer? We have some very talented Viners in both areas, and if you're interested, I'll link some articles for you to visit.
Thank you for the recommendation, etva. Will look it up. And drink your coffee, girl.
I did drink it, but it still didn't help. I just left Circled Thrice's article on geography, and I was left sputtering twice, knowing the answer, and the letter it started with, but unable to spit out the full name of the country. LOL:)
My children have consumed all my best brain cells. *sigh*
There is Hope, when they leave the nest, takes a couple more years but it all comes back to you...lol Just don't take up 'babysitting' grandkids tooooo much or you go right back to square one. ROFLOL
I don't know. I suspect I might be a complete zombie by then, and Neale will have to put me out of my misery!
ROFLOL.......Naw, that's when the 'Mother Survival Mode" kicks in....you'll see what I mean one day...lol
Hi etva, yes I would be interested in any links you might share. As student I've taken classes with the Adobe suite as the subject. I have used Photoshop quite a bit, unfortunately it was one of the earliest versions CS2. As the editor of my college paper I have access to CS5, and will be spending time with it shortly for some art work for my paper. Even though I have experience with Photoshop I am no expert, what are all those buttons for?
I have access to some nice cameras, but I'm more interested in photo manipulation at the moment. Maybe I'll pick one up soon, but I do have a photographer working for the paper right now. Balancing time is my biggest issue same as everyone I guess.
Thank you, Master Link
Damammatess and The Opposition both do a lot of digital art. I'm short on time at the moment, but I'll try to come back and link some more.
Absolutely. I'd put A. Mac, Mal and Fletch in the expert category, and they've really helped us learn how to work with our photos. I mentioned the first two, because I don't think they start with a photograph when creating much of their art.
Oh etva! How did I miss this?? I love 1 and 5. These are so subtle and precious and fragile looking. Nice gentle touch.
#7 interesting; the focus is the right bottom corner. Creative. I like it.
Thanks Anna! They are very different than my usual style -- at least I think so, but I felt rather proud of myself for taking the leap! LOL:)
Just gorgeous roses, etva.
Nice to see you again, I've had to be away for some while now.
Happy Christmas to you and yours, Kara (nee Theresa N)
Thank you Kara! I hope it's nothing too serious keeping you away from the Vine. Difficult times, I know. I have less time also, and am struggling to keep up with my tracker.
Wishing you and yours joy and peace this holiday season!
Thanks, etva. No, nothing serious. I'm all healed up now.
I hope you are keeping well in spite of also being too busy, yeah it can be tough.
Although my tracker isn't on fire. But, lots of friends take you off when you're away so long. It's understandable!! LOL.
