Up until a few years ago, my daffodils bloomed in March. For 2 years in a row, they bloomed in early February. Now they've come forth in January.

And what's with that cloud? Not the best of photos (my poor camera just doesn't have that kind of power, and I had neither tripod nor fence) but I think you can get the idea. Yikes!

Yup, I'm with A. Mac., I'm monitoring the storm moving up the Eastern Seaboard. Presently it is springtime in the Southern hemisphere, polar axis shift toward Siberia has moved everything in the US 500 miles south. I am wondering how we are getting streams of southern storms this far north. The rouge atmospheric conditions are following up the Andies, across the Gulf of Mexico, and are presently running up the east coast. These storms have been noticed by this author for the last 3yrs. Global change at least. Normally what is in the Southern or Northern hemisphers stays there....you know, sort of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas kind of thing. Burrying the bulbs lower was a good idea: it indicates freezing levels in etva's area are not penetrating at deapt it's good and bad. Definitly climate. Love the images! Like a big cup of coffee for this guy, Thanks etva, I'm enjoying the shots!

Very true. Our weather has been switching back and forth in the most confusing manner, so our freezes aren't long and are immediately followed by warm weather. My daffy's aren't the only ones that are confused:)

Since I read your article this morning, I noticed green grass growing near me at 6500' (Colorado). Perhaps we don't notice these conditions when snow covers the ground; I still think the condition is questionable.

The bad part of not getting a deep freeze in winter it bacteria: the bacteria levels in the ground will be high next spring: watch out for your well water. You should speak to the ag. guy* at your nearest university for specifics on water purification techniques. Generally, town/city water is treated for almost any conditions...not to worry.

Great photos etva! Agree with the global warming! This has been really weird weather so far, closer to summer weather! PS how did you get the copyright symbol ©. I copied it from one of your photos, but is there a key combo that lets you type it?

We had one cold snap a week ago, but overall, our weather has been unseasonably warm. Unfortunately, we are sure to have more cold weather, and my daffys will freeze. That really ticks me off! LOL:)

I couldn't pull over when I first saw the cloud, but honestly, my first thought was tornado, and that is also strange for our area, though we've had a significant increase over the past few years.

Well, even if it had been a tornado, it would be doubly odd coming at this time of year. I talked to a friend of mine in Iowa on Friday and it was in the 50s there. Strange all the way around. Though I'm afraid you are right and your poor daffys will end up freezing.

You can't see it in these photos, but the cloud funneled down behind the trees in a long column. My second thought was smoke, but it wasn't that either.

I did plant some more daffodils this year -- deeper than normal, in the hopes of having a few in March - LOL:)

Thanks Shelby! I love daffodils also, but they shouldn't be coming up in January -- at least not in Virginia! LOL:) My neighbor's fall petunias were still blooming until last week's single digit weather, but they appear to be reviving, since we're back up in the 50s and 60s. Very strange weather!

I think what we are seeing with the "unusual" weather patterns and climates is the new normal.

I have felt for some time that what is going on with the planet is like what happens when a human being is sick. We get fevers, get chills, cry, get blemishes, get dry and cracked skin, we shiver, throw up, feel bloated and gassy..on an on. What are the remedies we use to heal and wouldn't the earth do similiar things but on a much greater scale? The only reason there is a problem is because there are so many of us in the way of the healing process AND we keep adding to the sickness with what we do.

It's January and we have temps in the 40's. Now I have never seen this much warm weather here.

The flower buds on our maple tree are fat and ready to bloom, all we need is continued warm weather.

Nice Photos etva, I'm glad someone brought up the weather. It has been weird. We have had almost no rain in December in the Bay area(San Francisco) Our daffodils are about ready to bloom too. Humming birds are still humming, the temp hasbeen in the mid to upper 60's. I think were beginning to get a bit concerned on the "Left Coast". Even La-La Land(Los Angeles) is concerned.

Maybe it's time to start saving water for Dec 21st.

I do not think those daffodils are going to bloom again in the spring. AGGHHH -- a spring w/o daffodils is just tragic! By contrast, if it snows in say, March or April when the flowers are just budding, then the plants will just put everything on "standby" till it warms up again.

BTW etva, if you are on Flickr please PM me(NV email) with your Flickr ID so I can put you on my contacts list. I have managed to add HollyKl and MalamuteMan, who join rottlady and Ben. Getting there.
