GNW: Open Invitation for Leap Day 2012

That's right!  This year is a leap year, and to celebrate, NVP is sponsoring a Leap-Day-Sun Project!

Everyone is invited to participate, even if you aren't a member of Newsvine Photographers.  All you need is a camera and a Newsvine account.

How to Participate:

On Wednesday, February 29, 2012 (Leap Day) grab your camera and take pictures of your sunrise and/or sunset.  Don't worry about the weather; if it's raining or snowing, just take a photo and demonstrate that the sun was in hiding in your time zone.

On Friday, March 2, 2012, post your photos on Newsvine and include the tag " leap-day-sun ".

Also, be sure to tell us your general location, so we can watch the sun's progression across the globe.

********

Rottlady's article on the Leap-Day-Sun event can be found here!

Dowser's article on the Leap-Day-Sun Map can be found here!

This event is open to everyone, so I hope all my NV friends will join us in tracking the Leap Day sun -- after all, it only happens every four years, and being that 2012 is the endtimes, we get bonus points this year!

etva, could you remind me how to add a tag to my watchlist please? Don't want to miss any leap-day-sun pictures:)

Sure! You go to the main NV page, and search the phrase " leap-day-sun " after using the drop down box (to the right of the SEARCH box) to switch your search to tags. It will take you to the proper page, and you click WATCH next to the tag title.

Here's the link to that page.

This article provides screen prints to demonstrate how to do the tag search.

Thanks for asking, Anna! I probably should have included that info in the article. (Making a note for Holly! LOL!)

Practise makes perfect Mal, and I prefer to remember 2012 as a leap year, rather than the year the world was supposed to end, though I'll confess, I'll accept any excuse for a party! Maybe if we leap all year, we'll "leap" right over the end of the world! [etva nods head emphatically] It could happen, you know -- anything is possible! *grins*

I suppose substituting and drinking Agave syrup, as a sort of 'pre-tequila' would qualify. But good luck getting back to sleep with the resulting sugar high:-)

Even clouds will work Dowser! I think it will be fascinating to see what the sun (and sky) looks like, as it travels through the time zones. Remember the day RV and I both noticed (and photographed) a very pink sunset?, but the pinkish tones were gone by the time it got to the other side of the US.

Ok, if its cloudy, I'll do my best. Maybe I can get a dramatic picture of something, despite the clouds... :-)

I can't think where I have to be on the 29th, but I have to be somewhere... It may be that Peep has his horn solo that day. So, we may get a picture of the school yard sky! :-)

Well, I'll do my best, for sure! We have had nothing but clouds day after day after day... I'm getting to where I want a giant cannon, aimed at the sky, to blow a hole in it, so I can see BLUE for a bit. LOL!

I'm so tried of missing celestial events because we're stuck up under some clouds-- and it is a 6 hour drive to find clear skies. ;-(

It rained all day here as well -- thunderstorms, in fact, but luckily, I rolled out of bed at sunrise, and managed to snap a few photos from the window. There was color, but I only had my eyes open for a few seconds, so the photo might not be in focus - LOL:) I'll download them tomorrow.
